CAMPFIRE WILD

Our first session this year. And decade! We discovered a skull, possibly Dragon, Gruffalo or badger. Made stickmen, searched for buds on twigs, played Pooh-sticks (which got stuck in a bit of an eddy). We made fir-tree wishes on Christmas tree branches and then added them to the fire to hear and see them sending our wishes into the universe! A magical session made even better with hot chocolate and campfire popcorn!

A sunny and breezy day in the woods. We enjoyed looking for and listening to the birds. The buzzards were flying overhead a little earlier than usual. They usually wait until the children have left the site – I guess they are getting hungry. We played ‘Sink or Float’ when we threw sticks into the stream and had a good old game of our favourite ‘What’s the Time Mr. Wolf?’ We used tools to make swinging bird-tables and enjoyed toasted marshmallows. A very enjoyable first, for some!

Unfortunately, the session was cancelled today; the children do not fare very well on very windy days. So I visited the site to take a look for any damage left by Storm Ciara. I noticed one of the Ash trees had not made it, and now lays on the ground. It is always sad to see, but I have faith in nature and know that this will go on to provide habitat for some of the ground dwellers in the woodland eco-system. Make interesting learning for the children! There is a lot of deadwood on the ground, which is to be expected, and will offer a learning opportunity and discussion around living and dead wood. The Little Robins can collect some ‘snappy-sticks’ to use on our fire.
Did you know…
The Little Robins have a special song. You might hear us singing, to the tune of Frere Jacques:
Forest School
Forest School, Forest School
Playing outside, playing outside
Cooking on the fire, cooking on the fire
Yum, yum, yum, Yum, yum, yum!
